Thank you so much for your teaching and your studio!  I am so grateful for everything about what you are doing.  The last few years have been such a positive change for both Dan & I.  Tom was exactly the right person to convince Dan that he could do yoga.  Now Dan is try to convince his co-workers that they need yoga too.  I have been amazed at how much yoga has done for me and technically I already "knew" since I have participated in the past with Iyengar yoga. It is a great opportunity to take the classes in the Northwest.  Our commute is much better for the week nights. We still love going to the studio for our gentle yoga class on Sundays.  For me it is my "church".  After the class, I always feel like a new person, calmer and lighter. I guess I just wanted to share how much we appreciate your efforts and what a difference it makes.  I can't believe we are lucky enough to have this level of yoga available to us. ~Rhonda Anderson 

For years I have wanted to try yoga and procrastinated. Luckily I found this studio after one false start elsewhere. Since the beginning of January I have become truly committed to the practice. Calgary Iyengar Yoga has played a huge part in building that commitment. Several factors have made this possible. Firstly, the studio is very friendly and conducive to shared learning. Secondly, the style of yoga is very purposeful and methodical in its approach. Great care is taken to ensure correctness and consequently this ensures people progress appropriately such that they gain great benefits without undue strain on injury. Given the injuries I have sustained, this is especially important to me. However, one thing that really stands out is the quality, professionalism and skill of the instruction. It takes many years to become an instructor at this studio and it really shows. Teaching is as much about demeanor as it is about skill and knowledge. The instructors at Calgary Iyengar Yoga are very aware of individual needs and often provide specific advice in a manner that is caring and encouraging. When you are starting out, this understanding is very important in both enjoyment and personal progression. Over my first two months I have felt very positive physical changes that have helped me increase flexibility and lose weight – an added bonus! Pains that were once a constant companion have become less and less. It feels great to be engaged in a physical activity that I am truly enjoying and in a welcoming community of individuals. ~David Shaw

My first yoga class was about 2 years ago. I was motivated to go because I am pretty diligent about my fitness, but I knew that my balance and flexibility were not great. So, I went to yoga to supplement my fitness. I can now say that I maintain my fitness to supplement my yoga. What got me hooked on yoga was how great I felt after I left a class. Slowly, I could see small improvements, until one day, I unexpectedly and miraculously was able to touch my nose to my knee. Don’t misunderstand: there are many, many poses that will likely forever escape my grasp, but this is perhaps another attractive aspect of yoga. There is truly no end to it. I guess you could say that it is infinite. It just so happens that the yoga studio I attended is in my neighbourhood. This was by design because, like so many of us, I have a busy schedule and sometimes I find it rather self indulgent to be spending time on my fitness and state of mind. I noticed that many of the students at Calgary Iyengar Yoga travelled far and wide to attend. Some come from as far afield as Lethbridge, Canmore, and all corners of the city of Calgary. This caught my attention because it spoke volumes for the quality of teaching. I soon learned for myself why one might travel a long distance to attend one of the classes here. In the Iyengar style classes, the teacher does not stand in the front of the class while students follow along. Students don’t simply do their best to mimic the poses as they transition from one to the next. Instead, the teacher very carefully demonstrates the pose, and supervises while students move deliberately from one to the next. The attention to detail is impressive, and important. The teachers also encourage students to develop and maintain a home practice. I can honestly say that I feel physically and emotionally better aligned. I am fortunate to say that at 48, I am totally pain free (touch wood). My balance is improving all the time. My flexibility is better than it has ever been, and my strength and range of motion make me feel vibrant. The poses really do positively effect my state of mind, and I am slowly learning through experience that the yoga poses ultimately serve the purpose of quieting the mind and calming the soul. I am so grateful to my teachers at Calgary Iyengar Studio, and to the wise people who have brought this practice and all of its benefits to the world. It is simple, timeless, and effective on so many levels. ~Barbara Kimmitt

I've had many opportunities to apply my yoga "off the mat" as much as "on the mat". Yoga has helped me to stay grounded, focused, flexible and able when taking on tasks like winterizing our lakeside cabin and climbing into a really small crawl space! Yoga has also helped me in situations where I've faced fears and stress. I have a continued respect for my teacher, Sharoni and all the other teachers who I have had the opportunity of knowing. Sharoni in particular has provided me guidance and direction on how to best continue my yoga practice, even through some very physically challenging times I've had over the past three years. I have received many benefits through learning Iyengar yoga and I'm sure there will be more as I continue to play, strengthen, stretch, breathe and sometimes groan while performing yoga poses on my mat. ~Kelly Kemick

Sharoni, thank you for an amazing workshop on neck and shoulders!  Since I started coming to the Calgary Iyengar Yoga Studio 3 years ago, I have found my strength, balance, flexibility and endurance continually improving. There is so much truth to the words...."Today's maximum is tomorrow's minimum". I love the fact that the Studio is 100% Iyengar; the classes are drop in; the instructors are very well trained and knowledgeable and assist students in proper form.  A testament to the positive benefits of Iyengar yoga is that we still have a number of senior Iyengar teachers in their 70's and 80's that teach weekend workshops around the country! I find taking these workshops catapults my yoga practice to a new level. ~Louise Fernandes

After years of running, I developed pain in my back and hip. I decided to give yoga a try and after one session, I was hooked. I've been practicing for 18 months and since then my back and hip are feeling better and my body awareness has improved. I have also experienced tremendous emotional benefits as a result of my yoga practice. My 15 year old daughter has a chronic illness and our family has gone through very stressful times. Yoga helped me heal emotionally, which in turn, helped my daughter. This is the reason I continue to practice yoga. ~Brenda Cameron

My friends practice yoga and I always wanted to try it. I just wasn't sure if I could. At first I was nervous and didn't know what to expect. I was surprised how easy yoga could be and how quickly my body adapted. I do exercise but I've never found anything that helps me stretch in the way that yoga does. ~Antonia Kakouros

I was in a motorcycle accident 2006, and injured my knees. Years later, I would get out of bed with pain and stiffness. After a few weeks of yoga with Sharoni, my knees are no longer swollen and I get out of bed pain-free. Yoga has done wonders for my knees. Now I frequently take long walks, enjoying better mobility and balance. ~Jerry Bayer
